Can’t Park Cars on Principal Streets

In order to keep the principal streets open to traffic, city council has adopted an ordinance designed to prevent automobile owners from parking their cars on Main street between the city manager’s office and the First National Bank and other much-used streets of Hickory. A penalty is attached for failure to comply with the ordinance. It follows:

“An ordinance—Be it ordained and enacted by the City Council of the City of Hickory That it shall be unlawful for any person or persons, firm or corporations, owning or operating a motor vehicle or other vehicle, to stand or park same on the north side of Union square between the 13^th and 14^th streets; and upon the south side of Union square between the city manager’s office and Federal street and the First National Bank and 14^th street, and upon the north side of Ninth avenue between Federal street and 12^th street. No vehicle shall stand upon the streets within the fire limits of the city of Hickory between the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. for a longer period than 30 minutes.

“Any person violating or failing, refusing or neglecting to comply with the above provision or requirement, shall be subject to and upon conviction shall pay a fine of not less than $5 nor more than $15 in the discretion of the judge of the municipal court of the city of Hickory.”
