Sgt. Bagley Home
Sergeant Mayor (Major?) Ruby S. Bagley, of the coast
artillery, Fort De Russy, Honolulu, Havana, returned home this week. Mr. Bagley
is the last of the boys from here to get home. He volunteered at the beginning
of the war and has been in Honolulu all the while. Mr. Bagley comes home with two medals, a mailsman medal
(course A.) a pistol expert medal. He also received from the McKinley Lodge a
past chancellor’s jewel.
Sees Many Improvements
Mr. J.M. Leath is back from the mountains and will leave
next week for his orange grove in Florida to spend the winter. Mr. Leath
remarked upon the great improvement in progress in this city.
Marshals for Raleigh
Fair
Chief Marshal Saunders has appointed Messrs. Ben Smith and
W.P. Whitaker of Wilson as his aides during the state fair.
Brought a Good Price!
The Atlantic Coast Realty Company sold for Mr. W.E. Batts
the Lucas and Applewhite farms, and these were purchased by Messrs. G.W.
Gardner, C.D. Womble, G.W. Whitehead, and Clear Joyner. The bidding was lively.
Cash prices of from one to five dollars were given away from time to time as
the sale progressed, and a nice lunch was served.
Dance in New Briggs
Dining Room
The Garber-Davis orchestra will give a dance in the dining
room of the New Briggs hotel next Friday night the 24th. The
beautiful tiled dining room makes it an elegant place for dancing.
Stancil-Hatcher
Mur (should it have been Mr.?) Luther Stancil of Spring Hill
township was united in marriage to Miss Mary Hatcher of Johnson county by
Justice of the Peace Wood.
