Turnpike Company Accused of Not Following the Law, Sept. 27, 1920

The mandamus proceedings which were instituted by W.C. Watts on behalf of himself and others, to test the validity of the new law requiring the Lenoir-Blowing Rock Turnpike Company to set their toll gate back, as the law provides, and hwich has not yet been done, although the law went into effept upon its ratificaton the 27th of August, was argued Wednesday in Marion before Judge Harding. Attorneys Squires and Newland of Lenoir appeared for Watts et al., and Wakefield of Lenoir, Council of Hickory, and Greer of Statesville appeared for the turnpike company. These gentlemen agrued the case pro and con. Judge Harding took the matter under advisement, and will hand down his decision later.
