Under the trees on the crest of Renfro Hill, the night of July 5th, Miss Annie Thompson and a troop of interesting fairy folk will give a performance of the fairy element of Midsummer Night’s Dream, the most beautiful imaginative idyll in literature. While the majority of the actors are not professionals, they are striving to give as true interpretation as mere mortals can give of beings so eternally young and fascinating as Shakespeare’s elves.
The cast of characters may be designated thus:
Oberon, king of the fairies—Lavinia Powell
Titania, queen of the fairies--Love Banner
Bottom—Nell Folger
Puck or Robin Goodfellow—Miss Thompson
Titania’s attendant Pea Blossom—Mrs. Z.V. Roberson; Cobweb—Margaret Compton; Moth—Anna Rector; and Mustardseed—Martha George.
Fairies: Frances Folger, Elizabeth Powell, Virginia Graves, Virginia Burke, Nina Hoffman, Willie Burke, Frances Belle George, Mary Watkins Baird.
Puck, who is a mischievous imp instead of a good fairy, implores that the mortals will come prepared to believe all they see and hear and that they will leave their severe practical sense and dignity tucked securely away with their winter garments at home.
This play is given under the auspices of the ladies auxiliary of the Presbyterian church for the benefit of the Barium Springs orphanage., A liberal patronage is solicited.
