The Ellen Fitzgerald hospital was not organized as a money-making institution. Those who made it possible for this hospital to open in Monroe for the benefit of humanity gave time and money to the cause because they were interested in helping the race. The institution is starting off nicely in its work, but the receipts are less than the expenditures.
The following statement of the work for January shows just what is being done:
Number of patients treated, surgical, 16; medical, 4; obstetrical, 1—total 21. Expenses, $1,192.83. Receipts, $877.15.
