Commencement on the Rutherford College. . . Exercises Began Last Saturday Night and Closed With a Play Last Night

Commencement exercises at Rutherford College have been under way since last Saturday night, closing last night with a play by the Dramatic club.

The music class had a recital on Saturday night and the annual Y.M.C.A. sermon on Sunday night was preached by Rev. N.C. Williams of Granite Falls.

On Monday night the literary societies held their exercises. The commencement sermon was preached Tuesday morning by Rev. Loy D. Thompson of Charlotte, and in the afternoon the alumni address was delivered by Rev. W.E. Poovey of Shelby. The debate was held Tuesday night.

The following graduating exercises at 10 o’clock yesterday morning: the literary address was delivered by Mr. Walter B. Love of Monroe, and the 1922 commencement closed with the play by the Dramatic club last night.

Commencement marshals this year were: Robert C. Pettus, chief. Newtonians: Hubert R. Ashmore, Wade R. Apperson, Peter H. Clements, Henry V. Matthews, Edgar H. Nease, Ivon L. Roberts. Platonics: Harley A. Chester, Gibson Deyton, Robert B. Duncan, Doctor D. Holt, Vero R. Masters, J. Leonard Rayle.
