Statesville, N.C., Oct. 20—(by the Associated Press)—In a story sent out from this city on Wednesday, October 18, regarding three true bills of indictment having been returned by the Federal Grand Jury against John W. Guy Sr., former cashier of the First National Bank of Statesville, it was erroneously stated that one of the bills returned charged Guy and E.O. Heritage jointly with violation of the National Banking laws and another charging Guy and C.W. McLain jointly with violation of the National Banking law.
Three separate bills of indictments had been presented to the Grand Jury. One charged Mr. Guy and E.O. Heritage with violation of the National Baking laws. A true bill was found against Mr. Guy and not a true bill as to Mr. Heritage. A second bill of indictment charged Guy and C.W. McLain with violation of the National Banking laws. A true bill was found as to Guy, and not a true bill as to Mr. McLain. In a third bill of indictment against Mr. Guy alone for violation of the National Banking laws—embezzlement—a true bill was found.
Guy is charged with embezzlement of $84,829.82 from the First National Bank from Nov. 1, 1919, to July 8, 1922. He is now at liberty under $20,000 bond.
