Charlotte Grocer Kills C.P. Stallings

By the Associated Press

Charlotte, N.C., March 10—Charles P. Stallings, 22, was shot to death here Saturday night by W.A. Rhyne, when Stallings it is alleged, attempted to rob Rhyne’s grocery store at 4 Spring street. An army discharge in the dead man’s pocket identified him as having enlisted in the army from Mooresville, N.C. Stallings, it is alleged, entered the store and after forcing several customers to leave, he locked the front door of the store and then ordered Rhyne and two others out the back door. As Rhyne passed through the door he turned and fired two shots at Stallings, both taking effect, and death resulting shortly. The body was searched but no weapons were found.
