Asheville, June 2—Reversing the situation in the Massachusetts town where, upon Memorial Day one lone Confederate in gray marched with the home ranks of G.A.R., a veteran of Grant’s forces in the sixties today partook of a special birthday cake made in honor of Jefferson Davis, and posed with other warriors of Lee and officials of the U.D.C., to have his photograph made holding aloft the Stars and Bars of the Confederacy. The visitor was Colonel Cole of the 14th New York heavy artillery and now living in Chicago, Ills.
The occasion was the 14th annual entertainment of Zebulon Vance camp, Confederate veterans, by Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Glenn of this city, at which program of songs was enjoyed and a bountiful meal spread. After a literary program the veterans marched up town, gave the rebel yell upon the main thoroughfare and were treated to soft drinks and a moving picture program. Several hundred visiting Shriners enjoyed the appearance of these aged warriors.
