Pitch In to Secure First-Class Fireworks for July 4th, 1923

About Fireworks Display for the Night of July 4

If the co-operation of the public can be enlisted in the movement, Donnerson-Hawkins Post, American Legion, will stage a spectacular fireworks display on the night of July 4, it was announced yesterday by Commander Roy Shupp, and he outlined the very simple way in which New Bern people can help put this interesting attraction over.

The display will cost the post $200. This amount can be raised through public contributions. The new Bernian will gladly act as headquarters for the fund. It is only necessary, then, for 40 people to send in as many as $5 bills; or for 200 people to give a dollar each. It will be easy to raise the amount needed if everybody will “chip in.”

Commander Shupp asks this only: that the contributions be made at once. The order must be sent in by wire, and the Legion must be in position to get this off not later than tomorrow night. Will you be one of the 200 to give a dollar for a first class fireworks display on Neuse River off East Front Street the night of July 4? If you will, let it be known immediately.
