B.F. Stewart, Carl Renfrew and Mrs. Dora Raper, who were arrested last Friday night in an isolated cabin in Cross Roads Township and charged with running an illicit distillery, were given a preliminary hearing this afternoon before Justice of the Peace J.R. Hardy.
Stewart and Mrs. Raper were present at the trial, while Carl Renfrew failed to appear, thereby forfeiting his bond of $250.
Stewart and Mrs. Raper were bound over to court under bond by Justice Hardy, Stewart’s bond being $250 and Mrs. Raper $2.
When the officers captured Stewart, Renfrew and Mrs. Raper they were sitting on the floor of the cabin, playing poker for matchsticks, according to the testimony of Stewart, while the still was running full blast in the corner of the room.
