Judgment was suspended in the case of J.H. Smith, Gates County farmer charged with passing a worthless check on L.B. Perry, in recorder’s court Monday morning on payment of costs and making the check good. The check in the first instance was for $152.50. It cost Mr. Smith $166.95 and his lawyer’s fee to put himself straight.
Alton Harris for speeding was fined $10 and costs.
Willie Warren, for assault on Joe Sicklin, traveling salesman of Chicago, was fined $25 and costs. Warren noted an appeal and was required to give appeal bond in the sum of $50.
Claude Ives and Dan Harris submitted to a charge of possession of liquor when police found them at the bathing resort in Ives’ car with a half pint of liquor between them. Ives was fined $50 and costs and Harris was taxed with the costs.
Peter Mullen, South Bend street backer, colored, found guilty of using a surface toilet that had been condemned, was put under suspended judgement on condition that he pay costs and comply with the sanitary officer’s directions that the toilet be torn down.
