Local News Briefs From Graham, N.C., Sept. 20, 1923

Local News

--Work on the “White Way” has commenced again. It is stated that the work will be completed in a short while.

--Vance Quakenbush has sold his residence on S. Marshall St. to Frank Dodson of Saxapahaw, who expects to move to Graham to make his home.

--The public school at Midway, between Burlington and Graham, opened Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Chas. C. Thompson are conducting this school.

--Work on C.F. Russell’s new brick store building on the N.E. corner of Main and E. Pine Sts. Is speeding ahead. The walls are already above the second floor.

--Philatheas and the Young Men’s Class of Graham Christian church had a weinie roast last Saturday afternoon at Moonelon Park. All had a very enjoyable time.

--Mr. Will I. Holt and family are moving to their new home on Albright Ave. today. The home is a bungalow and has just been completed and ready for occupancy.

--The following spent Wednesday in Danville to see the ball game between the Danville and Greensboro teams: J.D. Albright, Ed. C. Edwards, J.R. Guthrie and Gary Garrett.

--The days and nights will be of equal length on the 22nd inst., which is called the autumnal equinox. So, if the weather pulls off some freaks, no one need be surprised.

--Carrier J.L. Amick on No. 1, who raised some nice melons and remembered The Gleaner, says his patch has played out, but that he expects to have some more next year. He is optimistic, to say the least. May his hopes be realized.

--What is known as the “cigarette building” on N. Maple St. is being torn down. It was converted into a dwelling several years ago. The material will be used to build three cottages on the Onieda Mills property on Market St. The old building was one of the landmarks of the town and was built nearly 40 years ago.
