Buyers of Bootleg Firewater Complain to Sheriff Smith, Jugs of Plain Water, Nov. 19, 1923

Just Plain Old Unadulterated Water Was in the Jugs

Seekers after firewater had one put over on them one day this week, and they proceeded to report the slick duck to Sheriff Smith. ‘Twas this way:

Just east of the city limits a self-styled bootlegger was dispensing, so he claimed, the genuine article of corn red-gut. Several sales were made but the buyers could discover no kick to their purchases.

Upon the approach of officers the retailer took to the tall timbers.

An examination of the stuff revealed that it was nothing more than water—not even clean, pure water at that!
