Football Overrules Thanksgiving in Chapel Hill, Nov. 29, 1923

This eight-page, blue-ink issue of the Tar Heel is dedicated to the insatiable Monarch Football, who gives over his thrown after the final carnival this afternoon on Emerson field. Football has complete mastery of the situation today; it has routed studies, activities, and classes. It is the sole subject of pedantic professors, listless students, townspeople, and negro janitors. It has drawn 15,000 people to the 1,500-population town, it is the meat of ravenous newspaper editors, it even drives out the Turkey who claims Thanksgiving as its own. We can think of nothing else but football, nor do we care to think of anything else. This issue served up all available dope, historical, present and future. Digest it well and follow the game more intelligently.
