Order Disposed of Petition Made by Power Company Some Three Months Ago. . . Rates Same As Asked. . . If Company Believes, After a Reasonable Trial, That More Than a Fair Return Is Received, rates Will be Lowered—Less Than 6 Percent Has Been Earned by Power Company Recently—Comparison of Power Rates Show Southern Was Slightly Under Comparative Scale.

Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 12—Its action being the final chapter in the petition of the Southern Power Company for an increase in hydro-electric power rates the state Corporation commission in a voluminous order made public here today, approved the increase asked for by the power company except for power resold in municipalities where the corporation is operating under local franchise. The amount of the increase allowed, which becomes effective under the order on February 1, will be approximately 10 percent, an increase of 15 cents per kilowatt hour being allowed for consumers using up to 50,000 kilowatt hours per months and a graded scale for larger consumers.
