Burlington, Jan. 19—Leonard Daniel Rippy, aged 55 years, died yesterday morning at 12:30 o’clock at Rainey hospital after an illness of less than a week.
He had been in his usual good health until Sunday, when he was taken ill and on Monday he was carried to the hospital for an operation. He stood the operation very satisfactorily and got along nicely until Thursday noon, when he grew worse and died during the night.
He was a native of this county and had spent his life near Altamahaw, where he had been a justice of the piece, prominent planter and leading citizen in the church and civil life in the community. Mr. Rippy was connected with a mercantile business in Mebane and had an interest in the Hub mills at Altamahaw.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Will Mitchell of Altamahaw; two sons, Joe, of this place, and Leonard Rippy of the Lexington graded school faculty; one sister, Mrs. O.P. Shelton of Greensboro; and one brother, Jim Rippy of this county.
The funeral was held at Bethlehem Christian Church this afternoon at 1 o’clock by Revs. Mr. Apple and G.O. Lankford, and the body was interred in the family plot in the cemetery.
