W.A. Carroll's Amazing Hand-Carved Toys, Jan. 7, 1924

Waco Man Models Toys in His Spare Time

The potters of Jugtown have gained a national reputation but for skillful handiwork they have very little on W.A. Carrol of Waco, except that Carrol turns his creative gift into the production of toys instead of pottery. County agent R.E. Lawrence has a pendulum-movement turkey made by Mr. Carroll in his office at the court house that is almost an automatic Thanksgiving fowl carved from wood, says Shelby Star. A string pendulum beneath the turkey when given a swing alternately ducks the head and tail of the fowl in such a manner as to make it a lifelike toy.

Mr. Carroll does not devote his full time to the making of toys, but only fashions them from odd pieces of wood in his spare time for the delight of his children and their playmates.

He has at his home numerous other toys made in leisure moments, the one in Mr. Lawrence’s office being only a specimen of his artistic work given the county agent as a present.
