Charlie Farmer was yesterday convicted of murder in the second degree and sentenced to a term of from 10 to 15 years in the penitentiary. The jury deliberated for three hours before returning the verdict of second degree murder, with a recommendation of mercy. The judge made a very strong charge to the jury in connection with the case.
Attorneys for the defense took an appeal, and bond was fixed at $5,000, which was furnished by friends of the defendant from the southern part of the county.
