Sheriff's Wife Doing Well After Appendectomy, April 3, 1924

Mrs. Ammons Very Ill; Operated on Yesterday. . . Popular Deputy Sheriff Carried to Wilmington Tuesday and Operated on Yesterday; Reports Encouraging

Sheriff J.O. Ammons went on the noon train to Wilmington today to be with Mrs. Ammons who underwent two operations in the hospital yesterday and who is in a serious condition.

Mrs. Ammons was taken sick Sunday. Monday she came to the office in the court house, as usual, but was compelled to return home after a short while. Monday night and Tuesday her condition became so serious that she was carried to the hospital Tuesday accompanied by her husband and Dr. H.B. Maxwell. An examination at the hospital revealed the fact that she was suffering from appendicitis and tumor and preparations were made for operations.

She was placed on the operating table yesterday at 11 o’clock and remained there until 1. the operations were a success and Mrs. Ammons came out from under the influence of the ether at 7:30 last night and has since been resting easily despite the fact that she is in a very weakened condition. Mr. Ammons, who has been with her practically all the time since she was carried to Wilmington, came in on the early train this morning for a few hours in his office, returning, as stated, on the noon train.
