Boy Scouts Will Begin Camping Season June 15

The camp of the Charlotte Boy Scouts on the Catawba river will launch its summer season June 15, J.E. Steere, scout executive, said yesterday. He will be assisted in the management by J.M. Shiele, executive for the Catawba Boy Scout Council, which comprises Gaston, Lincoln, Rutherford and Cleveland counties.

A water system is being installed and the camp well outfitted for the season. There are six permanent buildings, including storehouse, boathouse, four bunk houses, administration and dining room and kitchen building. Two life boats holding 40 persons, two metal nonsinkable row boats given by the Civitan Club and three row boats donated the Charlotte Fishing Club are among the camp equipment.

“The site of the camp, 25 acres located on a lake formed by water backedup by the Mountain Island dam, was given for the purpose by the Southern Power Company.
