The annual Red Cross Roll Call will be carried on in New Bern Tuesday and Wednesday, it was announced yesterday by Gus Stenger, chairman of the campaign group. The goal is $3,000.
On Tuesday several Red Cross booths will be set up in the business section and manned by committees of workers who will enroll the transients, while on Wednesday teams of canvassers will sweep the business and residential sections for renewals and new members.
On Tuesday night a meeting of all workers will be held in Dr. R.L. Daniels’ office for the purpose of receiving final instructions as to territory and other details. The meeting is called for 8 o’clock.
The roll call personnel are Mr. Stenger, chairman; Rev. J.A. Vache, vice chairman from the Kiwanis Club; D.L. Latta from the Rotary Club; and Mrs. Don Hanks, vice chairman from the Woman’s Club.
The Kiwanis and Rotary clubs are furnishing 10 workers each for the canvass downtown, while the Woman’s Club will send 20 workers out for the residential district canvass.
Only a small portion of the money collected in the Roll Call goes to national headquarters, the major portion of it being used right here in New Bern, it was pointed out. The local chapter is already mapping out its program for the coming year.
