Protect Children from Traffic, Nov. 11, 1924

Protect the Children

A lady in this city requests us to ask the authorities to have a policeman at the High School during the morning when the children are going to school and at play time, since the youngsters, absorbed in play, will dart in front of a passing car without thinking of the danger they are in.

She does not blame those who are driving the cars for accidents that occur since she realizes that one driving a car cannot stop a machine within a few feet, if it is moving at any speed worth mentioning.

This is a very good suggestion and one that the city fathers should consider and see if they cannot do something to either keep the children out of the street, or adopt some way to prevent them from being run over.

This lady says truly that the mothers are at home anxious about their children, fearing that they May be hurt sooner or later by passing cars.

On the other hand the playground in the rear of the school should be prepared as quickly as possible for the children to play and then the teachers should adopt some day of preventing them from playing in the street.

The best thought of the teachers, parents and authorities should be given to the protection of the children.
