Live Right and Be Honest, Urges Norlina Editor, Sept. 25, 1925

Do the Right Thing

We hear a great deal in these days and times about people doing things and then forcing their friends to come along and make the excuse for them by saying, “Well, I believe his intentions were good, and that he is honest and intended to do the right thing, and that we have to wait until the final end comes and then see that no sin or wrong was done, etc., etc.” And the actions of this individual or company of men have caused suffering and in some instances misery, then we are told and admonished to keep quiet and not say anything for the intentions were good.

Sometimes this might be true, as to intentions, but not always, and what we are trying to say is, that expression is greatly over-worked, and especially as to “higher-ups.” And bigger the church member the man is, the more often do we hear the excuse made about intentions and that the individual’s heart was right, etc.

Now, the point that we are trying to make is this, that it is not right and just to our friends that they should do things continually that would force us to make such excuses and very poor apologies. Individuals should so live and act that this will not be necessary in our lives when reverses and matters are shown up to the public that puts our friend or friends in an embarrassing position or predicament.

Live right, be honest and especially in the handling of business matters place in your hands by the public.
