Thieves Take $8, Pistol from Norlina Post Office, Sept. 25, 1925

Post Office Robbed

When Bashaw Shearin, who carries the mail to and from the trains to the post office at Norlina, came on duty Tuesday morning at 7 o’clock, he discovered that a robbery had taken place the night before. Everything weas helter-skelter.

He notified Postmaster W.B. White, who came and found that the thief had broken a pane of glass out of a back window, reaching through and unfastening the window lock and probably raising the window. He didn’t get much for his trouble, however, as the total was $8 in cash and a pistol. A registered letter and package had been opened but the contents were not removed. It is thought the entry was the work of one of the many tramps continually passing, en route to Florida, who are often short of funds.
