Fire Chief John Poole made a run with the fire engine last Friday, when an alarm was turned in from the residence of M.C. Hardin, who lives beyond the overhead ridge on Church street. To avoid a wreck at the Baptist church, Mr. Poole swerved the truck on the short turn into Church street, with the result that he struck a telephone pole. The fire truck was badly damaged. The fire chief is not only a fire fighter, but a master mechanic. He got busy and it is reported that he had the entire damage to the fire truck all repaired in less than two hours.
The fire at Mr. Hardin’s residence was extinguished by neighbors, with very small loss.
