On September 28, the Lord saw fit to take away Raven Benson and bear him to a home better prepared for him. He was 49 years old. He was a loving husband father. For years he was a man who was liked by all who knew him. He has been a sufferer for several years with cancer and was confined to his bed about two years before his death, which was not unexpected. He bore his sufferings with much patients.
A few months before he died, he gave his heart to God and united with Corinth Methodist Church. It was with much grief and sorrow to his loved ones and those what knew him to give him up, but it was not our will but the Father’s. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed by the name of the Lord.”
The funeral was conducted at Corinth church and he was laid to rest in the cemetery on Tuesday, September 29, in the presence of many sorrowing friends and relatives to mourn his loss. The pallbearers were Messrs. Ira Matthews of Fayetteville, David Stanley, Charlie Mitchell, Milton Bailey, Will Barbour and Charlie Strickland. The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. The deceased is survived by a wife and six children, three brothers: Messrs. Ardell Benson of Selma, William Benson and Nelson Benson of Four Oaks; and two sisters: Mrs. Izar Baker and Mrs. Chellie Stanely of Four Oaks.
Weep not, dear ones, as those that have no hope, for our loss is his eternal gain.
A loving niece, B.M.J.
