W.M. Pyrtle Held for Killing Pearl Childers Green, 21, Nov. 2, 1925

Man Being Held in Murder Case. . . W.M. Pyrtle Held in Connection with Death of Pearl Childers Green in Hickory Suburb

Hickory, Nov. 2 (AP)—Pearl Childers Green, 21, known through this section as Mrs. Green and Miss Childers, was shot and killed last night while in her room at the Martin boarding house in Brookford, suburb of Hickory. W.M. Pyrtle, an employe of the Brookford Mills, was arrested and is being held without bond on a charge of murder of the woman. The preliminary hearing is set for 2 p.m. tomorrow before City Recorder M.H. Yount.

Three witnesses testified before the coroner’s jury which was assembled yesterday afternoon that Miss Childers had told of threats Pyrtle had made against her life. Pyrtle testified that he was in her room a few minutes before he heard the shot and said when he rushed back he found her on the floor dying.
