By Terrel B. Teal, Journal Correspondent

Bear Creek, N.C., Sept. 28—William A. Collins, aged 77, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. H. Crutchfield of Mayden last Friday, September 17th. Mr. Collins was born in Wake county. In early life he married Miss Exeline Holt of near Bonsal. To this union was born one daughter, Delia. In young manhood he united himself with the Baptist church and remained amost faithful member of the same until his death. His conversation and daily life sowed to the world that he was [ended in mid sentence].

John Headin McIver

Was born in Chatham county, near where I. T. Darke now lives, on Siler City, Route 5, August 30, 1854, a stalwart soldier of the cross. He spent the greater part of his life in this community. About 4 or 5 years ago, after his daughter’s husband had died, he went to live with her.

His remains were interred in the Sandy Branch cemetery, where he had held his church membership for years. “A good man has gone to his reward.” His wife preceded him about 15 years.

He was a son of the late Fuller Duncan McIver and Minerra [Minerva?] Terrell Heeden McIver. Mr. McIver was twice married. First he was married to Miss Ada McKinney of Surry county, and to this union were born three sons: W. M. McIver, Charlotte; J. Alton McIver of Salem, Va.; and Chas. D. McIver of Roanoke, Va.

Mr. McIver had been in poor health for several months and had failed rapidly for the past two weeks. He died Friday night, September 17th, at the home of his father-in-law, M. F. Emerson, with whom he had made his home for some time.

His second marriage occurred about six years ago, when he married Miss Sarah Hunter Emerson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Emerson.

He joined the M.E. Church about 35 years ago, and had lived a consistent Christian life ever since. Of truth, “A great Man in Israel has fallen.” His first wife died about 14 years ago. He is survived by his last wife, his three sons, three brothers, J. Alton McIver of Winston-Salem; D.F. McIver of Bartonsville, Okla.; W. D. McIver of Los Angeles, Calif.; one sister, Miss Belle McIver of King’s Daughter’s Home of Durham.

He was buried near where he was born in the family burying ground near the home of J. T. Darke. May his bereaved family look to Him who is too wise to make a mistake and too kind to be unkind and realize that their loss is His gain, and that they have one less ?? on earth and one more in heaven.
