Influenza Increase
Shown in West Hickory
West Hickory, Feb. 18—The number of cases of influenza in West
Hickory has increased considerably the past few days, and the graded school has
been closed for two weeks or until the flu situation gets better.
Mr. Thomas Cook, one of our leading merchants, sold his
house and lot and his store building the past week to Mr. W.N. Phelps of
Brookford. The consideration was $3,000. Mr. Phelps will continue to sell goods
in the store building.
We have been supporting for several weeks the many houses
and lots being sold and changing owners and consequently last Tuesday seemed to
be the day for a number of families who had recently purchased homes to make
the changes and while Tuesday was partly a rainy day, seven families moved
during the day, and as far as your correspondent remembers this was a record
breaker for West Hickory.
Miss Lela Cook, who has been down with flu for several days,
is able to get around again.
Mr. Marvin Lael of Burke county spent Saturday and Sunday
here with Mr. Walter Carswell.
