Visits Sick Sister
Mrs. Polly Ann Stepson of Alabama is visiting her sister, Mrs. Caroline Hogsed, who has been ill for some time at the home of her son, William Hogsed of the Connestee section. Mrs. Stepson was before her marriage Miss Hefner. She has been away from this county for many years.
Wilson-Heath
On Wednesday, June 22, Miss Lucile Wilson became the bride of Auston Heath, the ceremony being performed by Rev. E. Allison of Little River at his residence.
The bride is the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Wilson, whose home is near Wilson’s Bridge, and she has been engaged for several sessions in teaching.
Mr. Heath is the son of Mrs. Mary Heath of Calhoun, where he makes his home and is engaged in farming.
Toxaway
Miss Sally Zachary of Brevard visited at the home of Mrs. J.C. Owen last week.
Warren Fisher, who is working at Sapphire, visited his home in Toxaway last Sunday.
Misses Annie and Raleigh Raines spent Sunday with Misses Jennie Sue and Edrie Norton of Oakland.
Ford Reid of Sapphire was in Toxaway last week.
Rev. Summey and Thomas started a revival at the Methodist Church Monday July 4. Everybody is invited to attend the services.
Miss Annie Galloway of Gloucester spent last week in Toxaway.
Mrs. Fred McNeely is very ill.
Misses Nettie and Edith Sanders visited at the home of Mrs. Coleman Owen last Sunday.
There will be a grave-yard working at the Toxaway Baptist Church July 16 with dinner on the grounds, also there will be a singing and other services held. Come everybody.
Jesse Breedlove was a Rosman visitor last week.
The infant son of Mr. And Mrs. R.A. Owen, who has been seriously ill for some time, is improving.
Mrs. W.J. Raines is on the sick list.
The Toxaway canning club girls met with Miss Ward last week, taking lessons in table setting, making menus, and talking about an ice-cream supper. The date will be given later.
Penrose Items
The Ladies Aid had a large, orderly crowd Saturday night at the ice cream supper. The proceeds of the supper will be used to purchase windows for the new church. Work is still going on. Mr. James Cox is nailing up laths in a hurry. We are hoping to complete the work by August 1st.
Rev. Mr. Lunsford, who has been in the revival services at Pisgah Forest, preached on “Christian Duty” to a large audience at Enon Sunday. He also officiated with Mr. Frady, Mr. Campfield and Mr. Blythe of Pisgah Forest in the ordination of deacons for Enon Church.
Rev. J.M. Casey, our blind preacher, has sold his farm at this place to Mr. Arthur Case. Mr. Frank Case has just moved on this farm and we are expecting a helpful citizen and church worker out of him. Mr. Arthur Case is with the Champion Fibre Company of Canton and is the son of Mr. Joe Case, who lives near the school and church. Rev. Casey moved to near Hendersonville.
Work on the road quarry near the station is still moving along. They have graded a road from the Main highway to the quarry and they report a fine quality of rock where they work now, just above Mr. Horace Lyday’s home.
Frank Woodfin, who has been with the Norfolk and Western Railway Company at Wheeling, West Virginia, came home visiting folks last week. His brother-in-law, Master Norman Marsh, accompanied him.
Mr. And Mrs. J.C. Hambright of Greenville, S.C., are visiting relatives here. Mrs. Hambright is a sister of Mr. Carmel Picklesimer of this place.
Cleveland Morgan of Greenville, S.C., is visiting relatives in our section.
T.F. Middleton took his Sunday school class on a picnic tour to the beautiful water falls at the Clough farm on the 4th. They had an enjoyable time with the exception of Rhett Talley’s getting the end of his finger cut off with a rock.
R.M. Blythe was the purchaser of a Ford last week.
Miss Mattie Pearl Lyday is attending Summer school at Brevard.

F.V. Whitmire of Greenville, S.C., has been visiting here this week.
Mrs. W.T. Bosse has been quite ill, but is improving.
The family of C.E. Orr, who have been for some time at Lake Toxaway, have returned home.
Mrs. C.P. White and son John left for a visit to their old home at Strasburg, Pa.
David Hunt of Anderson, S.C., spent last Sunday with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. C.W. Hunt.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Poole of Asheville spent the week end with relatives here.
Miss Maud Wallace of Raleigh, assistant state home agent, visited Miss Yvonne Ward last week.
Hosea Smith of Spartanburg has accepted a position with The News for the summer.
Robert E. Neill and wife, of Seneca, S.C., are visiting at Miss Virginia Patton’s, near Pisgah Forest.
Mrs. J.E. Craig and daughter, Miss Sudie, of Chester, S.C., are visiting the former’s daughter, Mrs. J.R. Hay.
Thomas Gash, son of E.L. Gash of Cincinnati, is visiting his grandmother, Mrs. T.L. Gash of Pisgah Forest.
Mr. and Mrs. R.S. Brown of Piedmont, S.C., are spending the summer here. Mrs. Brown is a sister of Mrs. A.N., Jenkins.
Mrs. M.M. Chapman and children, who have been on a visit here, have returned to their home in Anderson, S.C.
Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Ranson have moved from Mrs. Welch Galloway’s and are occupying rooms in Miss Delia Gash’s house.
Mrs. Gertrude Robinson, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. Pat Henry, returned Wednesday to her home in Norfolk, Va.
Mrs. F.O. Briggs of Richmond, Virginia, who has been visiting Mrs. A.S. Raper, has returned to her home.
Mrs. James Brewer and little daughter, of Winston-Salem, are visiting Mrs. A.S. Raper at the Methodist Parsonage.
Mrs. C.B. Osborne and three children of Greenville, S.C., are visiting her sister, Mrs. Wm. A Band, coming up with Mrs. Band on her return from South Carolina last week.
Miss Julia Deaver, who is attending the summer school in Asheville, spent the week end at home, accompanied by Miss Robbie Orr of Chattanooga, Tenn.
Straub Mackey of Greenville, S.C., is visiting his sister, Mrs. John Allison, and other relatives in this county. It is his first visit in 14 years.
Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Brown of Abbeville, S.C., are occupying Mrs. J.C. King’s cottage for the summer. They were here last year, staying at “Peter Pan” cottage.
Mrs. Samuel Summers of Columbia is visiting her parents, Mr. and Ms. T.L. Snelson. Mr. Summers has returned to Columbia after a short visit here.
Miss Alma E. Walker of Macon, Mo., one of the descendants of T. Patton, who was buried at the Davidson River cemetery in 1808, was a visitor in the Pisgah Forest community last Sunday.
E.C. Neill, who has been at work in Greenville, has come home on account of the condition of his wife, who recently underwent an operation at the Riverside Sanitarium.
C.B. Osborne, a former editor of The News, was here on the Fourth. He is now at work on the “Morning Messenger, one of the Winston-Salem dailies. His call at the office was quite a pleasure to the force, nearly all of whom were associated with him in previous work here.
Over $40 Taken In
The ice cream supper at Blantyre last Saturday night was a complete success. Something over $40 was taken in. The supper was given for the benefit of the Community Fair.
Toxaway Items
Born to Mr. and Mrs. John Gravely June 29th a daughter.
Mrs. J.H. McKinna and daughter have been on the sick list for the last week, but are improving.
Rev. Thomas of Rosman, N.C., and Rev. Ed. Summey of Pickens, S.C., are to hold a meeting at the M.E. Church next week.
Prayer meeting was reorganized at the M.E. Church Sunday evening by Mr. Hall and Mr. Breedlove. Every one is urged to attend the services. The rains are doing serious damage to the farmers of this place.
