Ruffin Fishing Pond, Established by Danville Men, Washed Away, Oct. 1, 1923

The fishing pond on the farm of W.N. Ruffin, near Purely, which was established about 18 months ago by a group of Danville men, was washed out by an unprecedented rain which visited that section last Friday night. The weight of the water swept away part of the dam and in the guys of water a large quantity of bass and perch with which the two dammed creeks had been stocked, were carried away. Thousands of fish, some of them weighing a pound and a half, were found later lying dead in the weeds. Some 25 Danville men had an interest in the fishing pond. “Pete” Turner, Hamilton Vass, W.B. Foster and Thomas Fox were instrumental in establishing the fishing pond on which more than $2,500 had been spent.
