Rommie Reid Captured with 50-gallon Still, 2 Gallons Whiskey, July 15, 1924

Distiller Held under $800 Bond. . . Deputy Sheriff and Stantonsburg Police Capture Negro Blockader Making Rum; Is Placed Under $500 Bond for Superior Court

Rommie Reid, negro, captured late yesterday afternoon in Stantonsburg Township by Deputy Sheriff Weathersby and Officers Russel Page and Walter Crocker of Stantonsburg faced a speedy trial before Justice of the Peace Owens and was bound over to Superior Court under $500 bond.

Reid was captured in a raid in the late afternoon, just as he was making a run with his outfit. The officers found two gallons of whiskey, which was being distilled when they appeared. The plant Reid was operating was of 50-gallon capacity.

The plant was torn down, and Reid arrested and taken to Stantonsburg, where he immediately faced trial on a charge of manufacturing intoxicating liquors.
