Harvey H. Smith, writing in Sunday’s News and Observer, makes the following statement: “I have been most struck by the niggardly use of paint on almost all houses outside of cities and towns. Some one told me that what North Carolina needed most was a good press agent. I disagree with him. What North Carolina needs most is a coat of paint.” Mr. Smith’s observations on North Carolina were quite interesting after being here for a month, in which time he had traveled over 2,000 miles by automobile through the state, and we believe hit the nail on the head in saying that we need to use the paint brush more in North Carolina. Nothing goes such a long way in improving looks, besides preserving the buildings and making them look sanitary.
Let’s take his suggestion and during the winter months use more paint in the rural sections.
