Lawyers Fight in Wake County Superior Court, May 2, 1919

Fist Fight in Court

Murray Allen and J.W. Bailey, two of the most prominent members of the Raleigh bar, Mr. Bailey also being a collector of internal revenue, clinched in a personal encounter in the Wake superior court, Judge C.H. Allen presiding, and the judge first sentenced Allen to 24 hours in jail and then to a $25 fine after Mr. Allen had apologized for the incident and both Allen and Bailey had expressed personal regrets and purpose to continue their life-long friendship.
