Albert Young Jailed on Charge He Criminally Assaulted 16-Year-Old, Oct. 1, 1923

Nearly Blind, Half-Witted Girl Assaulted

Albert Young, an elderly man of Leaksville township, is being held on a serious charge. Late Friday afternoon near Draper, at a point in Ruffin township, he is alleged to have criminally assaulted the 16-year-old daughter of Ed Slayden. The girl, said to be nearly blind and half-witted, was sent on an errand for her mother, and not returning for some time, the mother went in search of the child. Near the garden she found her crying and apparently in distress. Asked what the trouble was, the girl told her story of what happened. Mrs. Slayden saw Young leaving the premises. He denied the charge. As there was some talk of violence, Young was carried to Greensboro for safe-keeping. Young is about 50 years old. He will be given a hearing one day this week.
