By the Associated Press

High Point, N.C., Jan. 4—Five white convicts, sentenced by Wilkes county superior court and several of them serving long terms, escaped last night from guards in Davidson county. The camp was located at Silver Hill, several miles from Lexington.

The five men drilled their way to freedom through the iron cage in which they slept. Their names were not available here early today. Officers are pursuing them with hounds. Three of the men were shackled. Davidson County was using the Wilkes convicts under lease arrangements.
