A Ford coupe belonging to a traveling man, an Essex coach belong to Mr. Dennis Biggs and a Buick touring car, which is used as jitney between Lumberton and Wadesboro were all slightly damaged Saturday about noon when Mr. Jim Lyon cranked the Buick while it was in gear.
The Ford was parked on Elm street in front of the Lumberton barber shop and the Buick was parked several feet north of there. When the engine in the Buick stated from the cranking, which was done by hand, it started backward, gaining speed every inch. Lyon outran it and managed to get inside and apply the braes before greater damage was done. Mr. Biggs was driving north and was struck by the Ford as it was being unwillingly pushed backwards by the runaway Buick.
