Saturday, around noon, a short little man, whose hair is now streaked with gray, clean and immaculate in appearance, presented himself at the Herald office. This little man, Herman Ewert, is a globe trotter. Already he has made one trip around the world, requiring 23 years to complete, and is now on his second trip. He hopes to complete the second tour in 20 years.
Ewert is a native of Germany but now claims Mobile, Ala., as his home now. He came to Durham from Florida, where he painted a number of pictures showing scenes in that state, and is now on his way to New York, from which port he plans to sail, in his own little boat, for Cuba and South America. He carried with him a book containing newspaper clippings from all sections of the country and signed statements from mayors in many places, to show that he is what he claims to be. He is making his way through the world by the use of his paint brush. He plans to remain in Durham for several days, after which he will leave for Raleigh for a short stay. He has already visited Winston-Salem and Greensboro.
