War Hero's Grave Decorated by Firemen, Nov. 14, 1924

War Hero’s Grave Is Decorated by Firemen

The grave of Seth Perry, Pasquotank County’s first war hero, on the Courthouse ground, is neglected until Armistice day, and then it is thought of by Jerome Flora, chief of the fire department, who sends his men out with a flag and flowers to renew the memory of he who gave his all. Strang is it not that the memory of him survives only in the heart of one who was his comrade in arms on the battlefield, and who while protesting against the horrors of war, never forgets the spirit of patriotism in which he died? There is a lesson for all lovers of war. Only one man in the county to think of a hero’s sacrifice.
