J.A. Hilburn Has Died, June 11, 1925

J.A. Hilburn

After 20 long years of suffering with rheumatism, 18 of which he was confined to his bed, Z.A. Hilburn of Clarnedon was called to rest Sunday at 4 p.m.

He was ever patient through all his suffering never murmuring or complaining but setting an example of patience to all who knew him.

The funeral service was held at Mt. Sinia (Sinai?) Baptist church at 3 p.m. Monday by Rev. Hatley, where a large crowd of friends and relatives had gathered to pay their last respect to him. He leaves a devoted wife who was never too weary to minister unto him when needed. Three sons, Walter, Ruben and Jackson, and one daughter, Mrs. Kelly Fowler, all of Clarendon. Two brothers, Mr. O.L. Hilburn of Vineland and Mr. F.C. Hilburn of Clarendon, and seven sisters, Mrs. Zellie Wilson, Mrs. Mollie White, Mrs. Mary Duncan of Clarendon and Mrs. John Ward of Mollie, Mrs. J.J. Harrelson and Mrs. Joe Pridgen of Loris, S.C.

They have the sympathy of all their friends and neighbors in their bereavement.

From page 9 of The News Reporter, Whiteville, N.C., Thursday, June 11, 1925. The newspaper's columnist also reported on J.Z. Hilburn, but she called him Ziddie Hilburn. She also called Sinia Baptist Church, Sinai Baptist Church, the correct spelling for the church.
