J.E. Bobbitt Has Narrow Escape at Work, Sept. 11, 1925

Brakeman Bobbitt Hurt

Mr. J.E. Bobbitt was hurt in an accident on the Seaboard railroad during some switching on Monday afternoon about 4 o’clock. Mr. Bobbitt in the discharge of his duties as brakeman, so we learn, attempted to climb upon a box car standing on a pass track while the train passed on the main track near the switch, and there not being clearance enough he was knocked down and his head struck across the track between the two wheel trucks of the moving train. He had presence of mind to raise his head before the wheels reached him and thereby saved himself instant death. He was taken immediately to Dr. H.G. Perry where medical aid was rendered, and it was determined that no serious injuries had been received. A gash on his head and several bruises resulted from the fall.

It was a narrow escape and created much excitement among those who were eye-witnesses to the accident.
