Slayer of Husband Given Her Freedom. . . Coroner’s Jury Holds Mrs. Franklin Killed Mate in Self-Defense

Charlotte, Dec. 17—Mrs. Eugenia Franklin, 40, confessed slayer of her husband, George Franklin, aged 50, blacksmith and a war veteran today walked from her cell in Mecklenburg jail a free woman. A coroner’s jury held that the woman killed in defense of her life. She struck her husband on the head with an axe the night of December 12, in a bloody family brawl at the Franklin home. Franklin’s body was sent to Goldsboro, his former home, for interment.
