The smallpox epidemic around Dixie has been a great source of fear and comment for the past few weeks, but thanks to our very efficient health officer, Dr. C.C. Massey, with free vaccine the worst seems to have been passed. No new cases have been reported for the last several days and it is hoped that the condition of the school and community will soon be normal again.
Mr. H.V. Rose of Smithfield was a visitor at the home of Mr. W.O. Hocutt Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. W.R. O’Neal spent Sunday with Mrs. O’Neal’s mother, Mrs. Marceline Corbet, in the Emit section.
Mr. and Mrs. M.B. Jeffrys of near Archer Lodge were visitors in this community last Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. J.W. O’Neal spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. L.M. Whitley in the Archer section.
Mr. A.R. Narron and family spent Sunday in the Emit community the guests of Mr. P.C. Narron and Mr. Joe Meadow.
Miss Martha Hearne, primary teacher of Sandy Spring School, spent the week end at her home in Edgecombe County.
Mr. J.H. Hocutt made a business trip to Wendell Wednesday.
Mrs. J.D. Hicks and son, Master Dover, spent Wednesday in Smithfield with relatives.
