Morganton, Aug. 13—C. G. Morgan, former casher of the defunct Peoples Bank at Connelly Springs, this county, and charged with misappropriation of funds and forgery in connection with its failure last May, plead guilty in Burke Superior Court this afternoon and on the stand made confession of a number of the charges preferred against him.
Mr. Morgan took the stand in his own defense, attempting to explain and justify the various transactions. He confessed to getting money on both unsecured and secured personal notes and to using the name of his brother and others on secured papers. He made an effort to justify his activities by collateral which he claimed to have in Pageland, S.C, where he said he had more than a thousand acres of land and other holdings. He expressed a desire to make restitution as far as possible.
Mrs. Morgan went on the stand to make assertion of her willingness to have her husband make over his property to the receiver appointed to administer on the affairs of the defunct bank.
