The News carried an account of the trouble of Sid Vaughn in an issue a few weeks ago in which he was sentenced in the Recorder’s court to 12 months on the roads for dealing in liquor. At the time the officers found a score or more of pint bottles filled with liquor in his home and had no trouble securing his conviction. Sid appealed from the sentence and was released on a $1,000 bond.
On last Friday officers Hatcher and Ashburn made a trip to Vaughn’s home, who lives near the Sulphur Springs, and made another search of his premises. Sid was there and followed them around as they made the search. In one part of the house the officers found about 20 pint bottles washed and clean, corked up, wrapped in paper and snugly packed in a box. They had no liquor in them but were ready for use. The officers then went out into Sid’s front yard near the steps and lifted up a couple of grass tufts and under them found seven pint bottle of liquor corked and ready for whatever use the owner intended for them. Immediately upon this discovery Sid took fright and left the officers examining the hiding place, and has not been heard of since.
