The Laura Harris Circle will meet on Monday night at 7:30 o’clock with Misses Mary and Adele Pemberton.

Miarriage license was issued Friday by Register of Deeds Elliott to David Tuck and Miss Nora Nunn, both of Kannapolis.

According to a department report no new cases of disease of any kind were reported to the county health department Friday.

The regular quarterly business meeting of the Woman’s Missionary Society of St. James will be held in the lecture room on Monday at 3 p.m.

The conditions of Rev. R.F. Crooks, who has been critically at his home on Academy street, is reported today as unchanged.

An infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee of this city died Friday. Funeral services were held this morning at St. John’s Church, and interment was made in the cemetery there.

A well attended meeting of the Flowe’s Community Club was held Friday night at the school house. Mr. J.M. Hartsell was the principal speaker and in addition to his address there were several other features.

We extend felicitations to Rev. Geo. V. Tilley, pastor at Hertford, on taking unto himself a beautiful bride, Miss Sallie Thomas Williams of Louisburg. They are sojourning in the land of flowers and will be at home in Hertford after the 15th.

Followers of the destinies of Barney Google and his faithful steed Spark Plug will be interested to know that “Sparky” won the great international race. The end of the race came at Los Angeles and Spark Plug won by a hoof, thereby bringing $100,000 to his owner.

Major W.A. Foil, who has charge of the program for the Kiwanis meeting next week announced this morning that he had received a telegram from Mr. A.W. McLeon stating that he would be here to address the Kiwanians at their next meeting.

There was another sharp break in weather conditions Friday. Thursday night was almost as warm as a June night, and Friday was almost as warm. Late Friday the mercury dropped, however, and while it did not go as low as had been predicted, it was much colder than had been the case during the day.

The condition of Dr. John A. Patterson, who was injured several days ago when he fell from the back porch of is home when a railing gave way, is reported today as unchanged. Dr. Patterson is in the Concord Hospital and relatives report that he has suffered greatly from injuries received in the fall.

D.F. Widenhouse, prohibition agent, has been at work this week in Stanly and Montgomery counties, according to reports reaching this city. Agent Culp has been with Mr. Widenhouse, and according to reports here, they have seized seven plants so far this month. The number of arrests made and the amount of liquor and beer seized is not known.

Sheriff R.V. Caldwell Jr. and J.F. Dayvault, chairman of the board of county commissioners, Friday poured out 15 gallons and one pint of whiskey that had been accumulated at the court house. The whiskey had been seized by officers in various raids and according to the law had to be poured out by the sheriff in the presence of the chairman of the commissioners.

No new developments are reported today in the postmastership race in this city. The withdrawal of Mr. John L. Miller from the race is the latest development and so far as is known the candidates for the place have no information relative to the action President Coolidge probably will take in the matter. Mr. Miller’s term expires January 28th and an appointment is expected to be made before the date.

Three defendants were tried in recorder’s court Friday. Two were charged with store breaking, one being sentenced to serve four months on the chain gang and the other to serve two months. The other defendant, charged with operating an auto with only one light burning, was fined $5. The two defendants charged with store breaking received the first chain gang sentences given out by the present recorder, M.H. Caldwell.
