Western North Carolina Only Lost 19,5000 Acres to Forest Fires in 1923

Small Loss From Fire

Asheville, Jan. 15—Only 450 acres of land were burned over by forest fires during the last six months of 1923 in Buncombe county, according to a report made here by Carl I. Peterson, district forest warden. Mr. Peterson stated that in the 12 counites of his district during the fall months of 1923, 19,500 acres were burned over, which he stated was a good record. He added that proper measures for fire protection of the forests was doing much in the way of conservation and that 1923 had been a good year.
