Troy Carter, a whom man whose home is in Columbus county, was placed in jail here Saturday and a Ford touring car and more than 4 gallons of whiskey were taken in custody as a result of an arrest made by Chief of Police D.M. Barker and Officer Vance McGill. Carter will be given a hearing in Recorder W.B. Ivey’s court here today.
For more than two years, the local officers have been trying to catch Carter with the goods. Suspecting that he would be in Lumberton Saturday, they stationed themselves near a barber shop in East Lumberton, and it was about 9 o’clock when their suspect came along, and as he stopped the arrest was made. A 32-calibre pistol with an eight-inch barrel was also found in the car and taken into custody. It is alleged that the defendant had been dealing in liquor by the wholesale and making distribution here and at Laurinburg.
