Poultry Club Works Paying Off in Catawba County, Dec. 11, 1922

Work of the Catawba County Poultry Farm

(Statesville Landmark)

To those who have had no further acquaintance with the poultry business than to wring the fowl’s neck for the Sunday dinner, the success of the poultry club work in Catawba county reads like a romance. We are told that 103 members are enrolled in the work in that county. They started the year 1922 with a total of 1,138 chickens but now have 2,229. The value of the increase in their flock is $2,753.55; the value of the eggs and chickens sold for breeding amounts to $1,204.55; the value of eggs and chickens sold on local markets $2,748.11; prizes won this year $814.35. Total receipts $7,520.51. Deducting $1,350.64 for feed used and eggs for hatching purposes, the net profit is $6,169.87. These figures show that even on a small scale the poultry business is no mean business. What Catawba is doing other counties can do.
